Solo Trip Love: Stonehill’s Farmhouse - Accord, NY
In July 2019 I was living in NYC and working and needed a break from the grind. A trip upstate sounded like the perfect escape so when scouring locations, I found Stonehill’s Farmhouse – a beautiful renovated farmhouse in Accord, New York.
From the description and pictures on their website it sounded like exactly what I was looking for, so I quickly booked, packed and headed out the following morning. The drive was gorgeous and only about an hour and a half from where I was living in Montclair, NJ. I was so excited when I arrived, it was the lush, quaint and the aesthetic was such that was welcoming yet styled perfectly. I checked in and quickly explored the grounds.
There were fire pits outback where you could have smores in the evening, the wraparound porch was perfect for rocking and reading, there were friendly goats roaming the property who acted more doglike and wanted to be petted.
There was a hiking trail through the woods from the farmhouse to Arrowhead Farms brewery, where you could grab a beer and lounge in a hammock, and Westwind Orchard and Cidery where live music played while sipping on a cider flight and munching on an incredible wood-fired pizza.
Along the trail there was a revolutionary gravesite, and the walk itself took about 15 mins. It was a perfect to explore, grab a drink and some grub and walk back home.
The next day, I drove 30 mins to Hurley, NY where there was an event happening called Stone House day, apparently every second Saturday in July they hold this event and many of the historic homes in the area open their doors for people to tour and learn the history of the area and the houses themselves.
People dress in revolutionary attire and they hold lunch at the church in town. George Washington and the Continental army stayed there for some time during the Revolutionary war. Also, make a pit stop at the Damn Good Honey Farmstand along the way – I got some beautiful candles and some honey there. I’m a sucker for a good farmstand!
The front porch at Stonehill’s was the perfect place to journal and read, and the room where I stayed had a magnificent clawfoot bathtub and amazing soaking salts that I loved! There was a small refrigerator with wine and beer options and the room was so cozy with a gorgeous view of the property, and the bedding itself was so plush and soft. It was the perfect weekend escape that I needed.
Since going on this trip in 2019 Stonehill’s Farmhouse has grown a lot; adding a wedding venue, a speakeasy and a spa! I can’t wait to plan my return trip!
